Computer Tip: Recycle that Old Computer, Don't Trash It
If you live in the Winston-Salem, NC area, there is a new partnership between Dell and Goodwill which will allow you to recycle your computer instead of trashing it. You can drop off your old computer equipment at several Goodwill dropoff locations and they will recycle or reuse your the equipment. It keeps your computer equipment out of the local landfills, and gives your equipment a "second life". As a side benefit, your donation may be tax deductible.
The phone number for the Reconnect Partnership is 336-724-3621. Their website is http://www.reconnectpartnership.com/.
If you donate, be sure to remove any confidential data or files from your hard-drive before dropping it off.

Whistle while you work
As you can see from my previous blog entry, I just got back from the movies. There was an unexpected surprise at the movies, and that surprise did not come from the film. The surprise came from a theater employee - a young man, probably in his late teens.
The surprise -> He immensely enjoyed his work. It was unusual for me to see someone enjoying what he did. Perhaps I need to get out more. It made me feel good to see someone so positive about their labors.
My first encounter with this young man was at the concession counter. He dutifully and cheerfully served the customer in front of us. He took time in serving, listened to customer, and interacted cheerfully. He also did his job right. When it came time for me, the same cheerful attitude prevaled. While serving me, he was to go up to do projection work, obviously learning the craft. He was beaming - he was obviously doing what he loved to do.
I took my popcorn and drink and watched the movie. On my way out, close to midnight, I stopped by the restroom. Who else but this kid was in there cleaning the restroom with a smile on his face. That really impressed me. With a positive attitude like his and the humility to do whatever needed to be done, I predict a prosperous future for him. I wish him well, and thank him for reminding me that it is possible to enjoy your work. Sometimes we all need a little reminder like that, and I was glad it happened to me tonight.

Movie Review: The Holiday
I just got back from seeing the movie "The Holiday". This movie stars Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslett, Jude Law, and Jack Black (among others). It was a long movie (approximately 2 hrs 20 minutes), but was very relaxing to watch. Some movies rush through the story, but this movie took it's time. I liked it very much. The acting was very good and the story was well written. It's hard to impress me, movie wise. This was an intelligent movie for adults (18+, because of sexual and adult situations). I would recommend this movie for those who are looking for an escape to the theater. I say this because I felt the plot was not realistic (not in the realm of the possible for the average citizen). However, the average person can relate to the underlying themes of the movie. I won't go into them, lest I spoil the movie for you. If you desire to see a good movie, this is time well spent.
